Welcome to the Little Snake River Watershed Study Project
The Little Snake River watershed spans the counties of Sweetwater and Carbon in Wyoming, covering approximately 2,887 square miles. In support of local efforts to identify potential conflicts and solutions to water related issues, Anderson Consulting Engineers, Inc. is contracted by the Wyoming Water Development Commission to conduct an in-depth evaluation of the watershed and its water resources. The purpose of the study is to identify water supply needs and to develop a watershed management plan that identifies problem areas within the watershed and to provide practical economic solutions with an emphasis placed on the evaluation of potential storage opportunities.
Invitation to attend a project Scoping Meeting for the Wyoming Water Development Commission’s Little Snake River and Vermillion Creek Watershed Study
Project Sponsors: Little Snake River Conservation District and Sweetwater County Conservation District
Anderson Consulting Engineers (ACE) and the Wyoming Water Development Office (WWDO) invite all interested parties within the Wyoming portion of the Little Snake River and Vermillion Creek watershed, to attend project Scoping Meetings on either August 8th at the Vermillion Ranch (65 miles south of Rock Springs) or, on August 9th at the Little Snake River Conservation District Offices in Baggs, to learn more about the Wyoming Water Development Commission’s Little Snake River Watershed Study. Representatives from ACE, WWDO and the Conservation Districts will be available to give a presentation describing the project, to solicit input and participation in the project, and to answer questions and address your concerns regarding the proposed project
The study is intended to be a comprehensive assessment of watershed conditions, needs and opportunities. As you are aware, there has been a lot of effort associated with previous studies and a lot of changes to the landscape and land use are occurring today. The project will attempt to pull this information together into a comprehensive and useable document which the Conservation Districts can move forward with as a ‘road map’ for future projects. Projects which will be included in the watershed plan will include reservoir storage opportunities, irrigation rehabilitation projects, development of upland water sources for livestock and wildlife, and others.
We would appreciate your input on any of these items. This would be your first opportunity to meet us, to share your local knowledge of the watershed and get any of your questions answered.
